Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde has assured that the Gorak Singh report will be fully implemented within two months and it would facilitate the areca growers.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, he said that a delegation consisting of party leaders Oscar Fernandes, Veerappa Moily and Mallikarjuna Kharge will meet the Prime Minister within a week and discuss the problems of areca growers.

A plea will also be placed before the Union Labour Minister requesting to open ESI Hospital in Chikmagalur district as the district shelters large number of daily wage labourers. A meeting of the Telecom Department officers has been convened and instructions have been given for setting up mobile towers in the places with poor signals.

“We had received the information that hill places in Koppa, Sringeri and Chikmagalur taluks were not receiving proper networks. A meeting will be held with the Deputy Commissioner asking for land near the city bus stand for setting up the tower. We have also directed to provide place for the tower construction near Mudigere Town Panchayat,” he said.

The MP also said that the list of labourers working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme will be examined and the spot inspection of the places where the work has been carried out under the project will be performed, he informed. On asked about the tiger project, he said that it is important to ensure that the project would not trouble the locals before taking up the project.

The Chief Minister and the State Principal Secretary have made the statements that the tiger project has been dropped. “I would demand the State government to release a gazette notification on the same,” he said.

Alleging the State government of not handling the drought situation carefully, he said the State has not even furnished information to the Centre on the utilisation of funds released to it by the Centre. As the State is hit by drought, the government should take a decision to completely waive the loan of the farmers.

“The railway work will be completed by December end and the train will start chugging on the track from the new year. A sum of Rs 5.50 crore has been sanctioned for the survey work of Chikmagalur-Belur-Sakaleshpura railway route.

The Railway Department officers have been directed to carry out the survey work for the railway connection on Chikmagalur-Hassan-Bhadravathi-N R Pura-Sringeri route,” stated Hegde.
