BSF under pressure to end infiltration

Last Updated 28 July 2012, 20:10 IST

The Border Security Force (BSF) has now put the onus on their senior officers to curb illegal infiltration and smuggling of contrabands and fake currency notes into the country through Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal borders.

Senior government officers said that the BSF Director General, UK Bansal, decided to crack the whip after he got fed up with instances of his personnel’s connivance and slackness due to which drugs including heroine, fake Indian rupee notes of various denominations and other items were being smuggled into the country.

Sources said that Bansal told senior officers posted on the borders that they would be held accountable “if they come to know of smuggling or illegal immigration from the sectors, they supervise”. The officers were told that it is easier to find out from which part of the border smuggling took place by interrogating the courier arrested anywhere in the country. Administrative action would be taken on the basis of that, government sources stated.

The model, claim sources, is showing results as the seizure of heroine and Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) that come through Pakistan border in Gurdaspur and Amritsar sector have increased.
