The decomposed body of a seven-year-old boy, who was allegedly kidnapped, was recovered on Saturday from a drain in the Mukarba Chowk in outer Delhi, police said.

Police have arrested one Asishfor allegedly kidnapping the victim, Gaurav, a resident of J block in Swaroop Nagar and killing him on July 13 to settle scores with his father, Ranveer.

The accused was living with the victim’s family for some time and went missing after Gaurav disappeared, police said. “We came to know that Asish had some differences with Ranveer and wanted to settle scores,” a police officer said. Soon, they launched a manhunt for Asish. During preliminary investigation they got a lead that Ashish, along with a friend, Islam, had kidnapped Gaurav.

Islam was arrested on Tuesday but Asish remained elusive. He was later arrested and during interrogation, confessed to killing Gaurav and dumping his body in the drain.

According to Asish, Ranveer had asked him to leave the house after he came to know of Ashish’s relationship with a neighbourhood woman. Though Asish pleaded with Ranveer, his requests apparently fell on deaf ears and he had to leave the house, police said.

A furious Asish subsequently planned to kidnap Gaurav and kill him. With help from Islam, Asish kidnapped the victim. They killed Gaurav the same day and dumped his body before leaving the city.

Parents and relatives of the victim blocked NH-1 and demanded that both the accused be handed over to them. They were dispersed within an hour, following which they again assembled before the police station. They left late in the evening after police officials had a talk with the victim’s family members. Gaurav’s body has already been handed over to his family, police said.
