Seize unauthorised parked trucks

Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda directed RTO to seize the trucks, bullet tankers which are parked at unauthorised parking sites on the National Highway. The parking of these trucks have been hampering the free movement of vehicles. 

Speaking at a road safety committee meeting here on Saturday, he said drivers should follow the traffic rules and regulations. Those who fail to adhere to the rules, stringent action will be initiated against them. 

The contractors should put a board on the road work wherever, the work is under progress. 

The DC said that movement of buses and other heavy vehicles has been banned on old bridge at Panemangalore. There is no doubt over it. If there was any mishap, then bus owners will be held responsible for it. 

“Speed breakers have been laid scientifically at all those places identified by the police department in the Mangalore City Corporation limits. If there was a need to install speed breakers in few other areas, then we will do the needful.” The meeting discussed on the auto stands and bus bay.

The State government had agreed to bear 50 per cent of the cost of the over bridge, at railway crossing in Padil. The work will be taken up at the earliest. 

Social activist Hanumantha Kamath raised the issue of problems faced by the public while widening and concreting the road. The DC directed the officials to lay zebra crossing to allow the children to cross the road near Capitanio school. 

The DC directed the traffic police to initiate action against those bus drivers who park the buses haphazardly in the city limits. 

All the illegal bus shelters which have come up on the highways will be evicted. Traffic signal lights will be installed at Kadri, KPT, Nanthoor Bikarnakatte cross road. 

The authorities were asked to fill the potholes on the Nanthoor Junction within a week.

MUDA Commissioner Ajith Hegde, Mangalore City Corporation executive engieer Rajashekar, bus owners and representative of Kanara Chamber of Commerce were present.
