Extension of City police limits on the cards

The State government is considering to extend the jurisdiction of the Bangalore City police commissionerate to Nelamangala and Dasanapura hobli of Yelahanka, Home Minister R Ashoka said in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

The proposed move comes in the wake of the murder of Janata Dal (Secular) leader and Bangalore Rural zilla panchayat member BML Krishnappa near Nelamangala and the concern expressed by several legislators over the renewed rowdy activities in the region. At present, Nelamangala comes under the jurisdiction of Bangalore Rural SP.

Replying to a query raised by S R Vishwanath (BJP), Ashoka said the move would help in opening new police stations in the area so as to effectively tackle anti-social elements.

Vishwanath, who represents Yelahanka constituency said the area had become a den for rowdies and land mafia.

“I am getting threat calls from various groups, some of which are made from jail. The land mafia has made the region their base and several illegal layouts have come up here”.

Cops’ transfers

Nelamangala MLA M V Nagaraju said the government should not yield to pressure in the transfer of police officers.

Ashoka said four more persons had been arrested by a joint team of Central Crime Branch and Nelamangala police on Monday in connection with Krishnappa’s murder taking the total number of arrested to 16.
