State gets notice on appointment of KERC member

Last Updated 23 September 2009, 17:26 IST

Karnataka State Electricity Consumers Forum (KSECF), in a petition challenging the appointment of Hiremath has contended that he is not qualified for the post and sought direction to set-aside his appointment. Hiremath, who was a law officer at KPTCL, managed to secure 12 promotions within a short period of time and became a Director of Law.

He used to appear before the KERC in all the cases of the KPTCL and escoms and had personally pleaded before the Commission right from 1999, since the constitution of the regulatory commission.

Further, Hiremath does not meet the criteria set out in Section 84(1) of Electricity Act, 2003 for appointments to the KERC, the petition alleged. It also sought to bar Hiremath from hearing the tariff revision for 2009-10.
