Woman killed by lightning

Rekha Patil (25) is the deceased. The incident occurred while she was working in the land along with her cousin, Amrut Belgaumkar. Amrut has sustained injuries.

Girl washed away

A five-year-old girl was washed away while she was crossing in River Markendeya in Uchagoan village in the taluk.

Police said, Ranjita Kamble (5) slipped from her mother’s hand and was washed away in the river current. The search for the body had not yielded any results till late evening. Kakati police have registered a cases in respect of both the incidents.

Crops damaged

Standing crops worth lakhs of rupees have been destroyed in the hailstorm that lashed Chitradurga district on Tuesday night. Papaya, capsicum and areca trees have been uprooted while maize and onion, which were ready for harvesting are decomposing as water has stagnated in the fields. Eight houses have sustained damage due to the downpour. The loss has been estimated at Rs 40 lakh. Vehicular traffic has been hampered at many places as roads are inundated with water.
