DC promises facilities galore for people

Walking path to be built at Kolaramma tank and several deputy tahsildars offices to be opened

A three-metre-wide trench will be built all around the Kolaramma tank with the intention of creating a walking parth, revealed the Deputy Commisioner, Dr D S Vishwanath.

“Saplings will be planted and the walking path constructed with assistance from the Forest and Horticulture Departments,” he said, speaking to members of the media at his office on Friday. “The expenditure for construction of the walking path will be borne by the Small Irrigation Department and City Municipal Council too,” he added and warned that, “A notice will be given for clearance of encroached areas in the City.”

Encroached properties are to be dealt with by the administration. Encroachment at Nagarakunte, the ancient tank in the heart of Kolar City, will start to be cleared from August 8, Vishwanath said. “The temple tank will be rejuvenated with volunteers from the public. “Clearing the weeds around the tank will continue till August 7,” he added.

New offices to open

Following multiple complaints about the operations of Nemmadi Kendras, Vishwanath said that deputy tahsildar’s offices (nadakacheri) will be opened at 12 hoblis across the district from September to help citizens.

“The district has 27 hobli centres, including kasaba hoblis. Five taluk centres have tahsildar’s offices and 10 have deputy tahsildar’s offices already,” he added. “The remaining 12 hoblis will get new deputy tahsildar’s offices, and citizens will be relieved of the trouble of repeatedly visiting Nemmadi Kendras for work-related issues pertaining to caste, residence and income certificates, and other issues.”

The hoblis of Sugatur, Vakkaleri, Vemagal and Narasapura in Kolar taluk, Lakkur in Malur taluk, Duggasandra and Avani in Mulbagal taluk, Boodikote, Kamasamudra and Bethamangala in Bangarpet taluk and Ronur and Nelavanki in Srinivaspur taluk are scheduled to recieve the new offices. “A proposal has been submitted to the government, to open one additional Nemmadi Kendra each in Kolar and the Kolar Gold Fields cities until the deputy tahsildar’s offices are opened,” said the DC.

At the current time, attempts are being made to fill 53 vacant village accountant posts across the district. “A preference will be given to 12 people who have computer training. These individuals will be responsible for giving the necessary certificates to citizens,” Vishwanath explained. It is hoped that hiring people to fill these posts will end the confusion over the distribution of new ration cards. “But rations will be supplied to old card holders till August 31,” Vishwanath said and requested the support of citizens.

Attempts to obtain a second ration card will give rise to problems. But citizens can obtain new cards by cancelling their old card —but only if they change their residence, the DC said.  Citizens in rural areas with temporary ration cards should have photographs of themselves taken immediately for the new cards. “There are new provisions in gram panchayats for citizens to have photographs taken, even if it is at night,” he said.
