A day after 23-year-old former air hostess Geetika Sharma committed suicide over alleged harassment by former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, police have taken possession of her laptop, data cards, mobile phone and other documents from her house at Ashok Vihar in north-east Delhi.

While Kanda resigned from the Haryana cabinet on Sunday evening, police have issued a notice to his company’s manager Aruna Chadda for interrogating him on Tuesday.

Police on Sunday also filed a case of abetment to suicide against Kanda and Chadda after they found a suicide note from Geetika’s room. She was working with MDLR Airline, owned by Kanda. After the airline became non-operational, she was made director in one of the subsidiary companies owned by Kanda, but she had refused the offer.

In the FIR, Geetika’s mother Anuradha Sharma alleged that an email was sent by Kanda under a fictitious identity of a Gurgaon station house officer to Emirates Airlines when Geetika was working there in 2010, following which the airline sacked her.

When she and her family members came to know about Kanda’s hand behind the sacking incident, he went to her house and apologised for it and promised to make Geetika director of MDLR Airline.

Anuradha alleged that on August 4, a day before the incident, she spoke to Kanda over phone and told him that Chadda had telephoned her on August 3.

“Chadda rang me and said Geetika had to sign some documents. He informed me that Kanda had said that Geetika will have to come to office to sign the documents, otherwise he will file a case against her with police,” Anuradha stated in the FIR.

Geetika’s maternal uncle, Sushil Kumar, showed an application filed by the department of law in Dubai in 2010 for extraditing Geetika, where “she was reportedly charged in a case of fraud”. The Consulate General of India was given a copy of the application and was requested to help Dubai police in extraditing Geetika.

The family members demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Refuting Kanda’s claims that he barely knew Geetika and he was not close to her, the family members released some photographs of Geetika’s parents with Kanda and his wife, Saras. In one of the pictures, Geetika is standing with Kanda’s daughter.

Police sources said a medical board will be formed to ascertain if Geetika was subjected to sexual assault. Police said the post-mortem report will be available on Tuesday.
“Investigation is on and it will take some time to confirm the real cause behind her suicide,” said a senior police officer.

Geetika was found hanging in her room on Sunday by her parents. Her father Dinesh Sharma runs a printing press and her mother Arunadha works with the finance ministry.
