Speeding BMW car rams into cab, 1 dead

 A man was killed after a speeding BMW car driven by an MBBS student rammed into his Maruti Eeco cab on Tilak Marg crossing in the wee hours of Monday, police said.

Mohammad Rafiq, 39, a resident of Mandawali in east Delhi, was returning home at 1.20 am when the accident happened. He was heading towards India Gate when Ayush Arora, 22, a resident of Bhiwani, who was coming from Mandi House side, rammed into the taxi. Arora was driving home with two of his friends after a party.

Police said the impact was such that Rafiq was thrown out of the vehicle through the windshield. His car then rammed into a divider and caught fire. “The BMW car was crossing Bhagwan Das Road and was speeding,” police said. Before Rafiq’s car caught fire, it turned towards Bhagvan Das Road on the Supreme Court side and the BMW car fell on Tilak Marg Road facing India Gate.  A police control room van, which was patrolling nearby, rushed to the spot.Rafiq was taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Firemen to the rescue Police then called fire officials, who sent a water cannon to douse the car blaze. Ayush was apprehended on the spot, and released on bail later.  He has been staying at the Old Boys Hostel in Maulana Azad Medical College and has been doing an internship. The car is registered in the name of a doctor with Gangaram Hospital. Police have filed a case of causing death by negligence under section 304(A) and rash driving under section 279 of the Indian Penal Code with Tilak Marg police station. After a medical test on Ayush, police said he was not under the influence of alcohol.
