Team selection irks Wadiyar

KSCA president asks selectors for an explanation on the criteria used

After watching the Mantri Karnataka Premier League, Wadiyar, according to sources, felt that the performances of some of the players in the tournament were not rewarded suitably with a place in the State squad. Apparently, he was also miffed with the inclusion of some players, who have not done anything noteworthy in the KPL, in the squad for the Mushtaq Ali tourney beginning here on Thursday.

In the absence of Wadiyar, who is in Mysore for the Dasara celebrations, Dr Krishnamurthy, vice-president of the KSCA, chaired the meeting with the selectors, headed by former India stumper Syed Kirmani, at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Wednesday evening.

During the meeting the selectors explained their view about the selection of the team to Krishnamurthy. Krishnamurthy, however, was not available to the media for comment.
Senior selection committee – Kirmani, Raghuram Bhat, R Ananth and Ashok Anand – had picked the squad on Monday and appointed Robin Uthappa as the skipper of the side that also includes former India captain Anil Kumble.
