The residents staged a snap stir and rasta roko at Old Madras road in Kolar on Wednesday, criticising bad roads, irregular water and power supply which were a fallout of the drainage works.

The protesters alleged that the road which was in good condition was dug up for the drainage works six months ago and has not been relaid since then. Further the road is ridden with potholes. During the rainy season the potholes are filled with water which not only obstructed movement of vehicles but has also lead to accidents during the night.

Drinking water crisis

Apart from these the drinking water connection of many households in the area were damaged during the works and till today the CMC hasn’t restored it, they said. The protesters alleged that though many requisitions were given to the City Municipal Council in this regard they haven’t bothered to take action. As a result the area is facing acute drinking water crisis, they added.

Sighting developmental works, power supply has been stopped complicating matters, they added. The protesters said that they were forced to protest as repeated requests to City Municipal Council had not yielded any results.

The City Municipal Council President Ramadass who arrived at the spot under took a door-to-door survey to know the problems of the people.

Assurance

He assured the residents that power and water supply will be restored in two months along with proper roads. The protesters after the assurance from the City Municipal Council president withdrew the protest.

Dalit Praja Sene’s district Vice-President Sriranga, BJP SC Morcha district unit President Venkatesh and others were present on the occasion.
