5 held for selling 2 minor girls

The Bharamasagar police in the taluk arrested five for selling two minor girls, who were reported missing, and forcing them into child marriage.


The arrested are Kotrappa (65) of Haveri, the couple Mallamma (28) and Gopal (40) both residents of Surat, Narayanji (25) and Nagji Bhai (35).


Anasuyamma and Mamata, both aged 14 years were reported missing from Akkamahadevi Public Girls’ Hostel at Sirigere village in the taluk since December 3, 2011.
A missing complaint was registered with the Bharamasagar Police Station.


Search operation


The two girls were residents of Todaranalu village. The
District Crime Investigation Bureau (DCIB), which took up the investigation launched a search operation in surrounding villages aided by photographs of the two missing girls.
After tracking a few phone calls, the DCIB team found out that the two girls were in Gujarat.


Based on the clue, the team reached Jamnagar in Gujarat and first traced Anasuyamma. Later, acting on the information provided by her, Mamata was rescued at Teerthagaon village in Banaskat district.


Taken to Surat
During interrogation the two girls informed the team that they were taken to Surat from Davangere in train by a man named Kotrappa. He made them stay at his daughter Mallamma’s place.


Mallamma along with her husband Gopal forced Anasuyamma and Mamata, both minors, into marriage with Narayanji and Nagji, respectively.


Arrested


The police, based on the statements of the two girls have arrested Kotrappa, his daughter Mallamma, her husband Gopal and grooms Narayanji and Nagji.
Inspector General of Police Sanjay Sahai, East Zone, has awarded the team a Rs 30,000 cash prize for cracking the case and rescuing the two minor girls.
