<p>The State Cabinet on Friday decided to seek a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe into alleged excess payment of Rs 17.97 crore for contractors for land levelling work in Bidadi Industrial Area during 2000-01. </p>.<p><br />The lapses had been pointed out by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Primary and Secondary Education Minister Visvesvara Hegde Kageri told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.<br /><br />It is learnt that former legislator D C Thammanna was the Chief Development Officer of Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) during the period. Thammanna later joined politics. He had unsuccessfully contested on a BJP ticket from Maddur. The CID is likely to investigate his role in the alleged irregularities, sources said.</p>
