Speeding truck runs down three year old

A three-year-old boy was killed in an accident involving a BBMP truck loaded with garbage at the TC Palya junction on Sunday morning.

Two cars and an autorickshaw were damaged in the accident.

The victim has been identified as Nikhil, son of Nithyananda and Jose, residents of Ramamurthy Nagar. According to police, Nikhil was on his way to a wedding with his father and grandmother when the accident happened.

As the three waited to cross the road near the junction, a truck driver, in an attempt to negotiate his vehicle in a narrow space, struck Nikhil. The boy died instantly.

The speeding truck then rammed the parapet wall of the nearby lake and fell on its side.

The impact was such that it collided with two cars and an autorickshaw passing by. The driver fled the scene. The accident affected traffic for over half an hour, police said.

Ragpicker murdered

A ragpicker was allegedly murdered by three fellow workers in the Ashoknagar police limits late on Saturday night.

According to police, Prabhu, 30, and his three friends quarrelled over money earned by them. The three crushed Prabhu’s head with a heavy stone. An auto driver who witnessed the incident went to Prabhu’s aid, but it was too late.

Police have taken the assailants into custody. Prabhu was married a year-and-a-half ago and had a daughter, police said.

Flower vendor kills self

A flower vendor allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Subramanyanagar late on Saturday. Shankarappa, 48, was from Nelamangala and had settled in the City years ago.

Police said that Shankarappa had taken to drinking alcohol recently and had a habit of locking himself up in his room when inebriated.

But, when he did not emerge from his room on Sunday morning, family members broke open the door only to see Shankarappa hanging from the ceiling fan.
