The Police on Monday arrested Bimal Agarwal, director of Techno Trade Impex, on charges the of supplying bomb suits of inferior quality to Maharashtra Police.

Agarwal was arrested soon after the Sessions Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in which he argued that he was being implicated at the behest of former Principal Secretary (Home) P K Jain. The Economic Offences Wing of police registered a case of cheating and forgery against Agarwal on May 13. The state police had floated tenders for the purchase of high-grade bomb suits as the safety gears in use seemed outdated after the 26/11 attacks.

His company won the bid and agreed to supply 80 suits at a cost of Rs 6 crore. However, the assessment of the suits revealed that a batch of them were sub-standard and had forged tags on them. Agarwal moved the Bombay High Court challenging the assessment.
