'Steps to ensure smooth traffic in 1 month'

Talking to reporters at his office on Thursday, he said: “Indiscipline cannot be tolerated in the department which is a department of discipline. Unfortunately, no police including PSIs have got proper training in traffic management. This has resulted in disorder in traffic.”

“About 90 per cent of the police served for five years in a station have been transferred to some other places during the general transfers after August 8. Police personnel are being deputed to one or other duty continuously after Ganesha festival, and hence, the new comers cannot be imparted proper training,” he said. “It has been decided to conduct training sessions to the personnel instead of the weekly parades.

Besides, they will be sent to Bangalore for training in different groups. Totally, efforts will be made to set right the traffic system within one month,” Annigeri assured. The government has sanctioned Rs 7,500 each to rural police stations and Rs 10,000 each to urban stations for investigating dacoity, robbery and other cases. Thus Rs 6 lakh grant has been given to the district, he informed.

“There has been a slight increase in crime in Somwarpet region in the last three months. But the situation is the same in rest of the places. Steps will be taken to control criminal activities in the border areas after conducting a meeting of inter-state police officials after Thula Sankramana,” he said. LPG cylinders, TV sets and jewelleries recovered from the persons involved in stealing cases in the district in the past three months, were displayed in the SP’s office.
