Development programmes to change Udupi: Kota

Government committed to help tenants under Mulgeni rights

The unfurling of the tricolor in the midst of patriotic hymns and cheerful atmosphere marked the grand celebrations of 66th Independence Day celebrations at the Udupi district stadium on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering after receiving the guard of honor, the Port, Inland Water Transport and Muzrai Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said many development programmes initiated by the State government are introduced in the district to bring about overall change.

The Minister said the Sakaala programme that was introduced a few months back is making progress by helping public to get their work done within the prescribed time.

As many as 1,28,935 applications were received under the programme, of which, 1,20,830 applications are disposed. The district stands in the eighth position in the State in implementing the programme.

Three deaths have taken place in the recent rain havoc and Rs 1.50 lakh each has been given to the families of the victims. The government has released the grant of Rs 7,62,83,000 to rejuvenate about 138 lakes in the district under Panchayath Raj and Minor Irrigation Department, he added.

Stating that the government has taken up elaborate plans to promote tourism in the area, the minister said that district has received Rs 40 lakh to develop the Yatri Nivas and also the surrounding areas of Sri Krishna temple.

The administrative approval for Rs 1 crore is given, of which, Rs 48 lakh is released to take up second phase development work at Kota Shivaram Karantha memorial in Kotathattu village.

In the district, as many as 16,731 aged beneficiaries are receiving the benefits of old age pension. Besides, about 42,724 beneficiaries have been given the amenities of Sandhya Suraksha Yojana.

As many as 12,000 people below poverty line are given the title deeds following the amendments made by the government for Land Reforms Act Section 94 C. About 2,584 beneficiaries have been identified under Bhagyalaxmi Yojana and bonds have been distributed to all.

Medical facilities are given to about 74 children under Bala Sanjeevini Yojana. Programmes have been initiated to take care of children below the age six suffering from malnutrition, he said.

About Rs 15.49 crore is invested to take up about 459 construction works under Rural Water Distribution programme in the year 2011-12. About Rs 655 lakh is released for the district under Chief Minister’s Rural Roads development programme.

The maintenance of about 205 stretches across the district is taken up. Repair works of about 331 stretches are completed utilising Rs 576 lakh released under 3rd Finance Commission, he added.

The minister said that about Rs 326 lakh is released to develop Western Ghats and proposal comprising the blue print of development works is sent to central government for approval. Under Suvarna Bhoomi Yojana, as many as 2,997 farmers and 2,135 additional beneficiaries are given away Rs121 lakhs as subsidy.

As many as 1,330 applications are received under the programme during current fiscal year. About 8,950 mothers in the district have received the benefits under Janani Suraksha Yojana at the cost of Rs 78.41 lakhs. Free text books are given to the students of 1st to 10th standard at the cost of Rs147.42 lakhs.

As many as 11,903 bicycles are given to the students of 8th standard. Two each post metric hostels are built in Kundapur and Karkala. As many as 2,518 families belonging to Koraga community are given nutritious food.

About Rs 150 lakhs is allotted to provide basic infrastructural facilities to people belonging to Schedule Tribe communities. The Government is committed to provide “Kumki” privileges to the tenants under Mulgeni rights. The district will receive mobile ambulance for emergency treatment to the animals shortly, he added.

As many as 17 contingents comprising District Armed Reserve Police Force, Home Guards, Scouts and Guides took part in the parade. Rank holders in SSLC and PUC exams were felicitated on the occasion.
