Flag hoisting on cross-topped pole leads to controversy

A National flag hoisted on a flag post, which had a Cross at the top, attracted criticism from local people and authorities here on Wednesday.

Bishop Vincent of the Malakara Catholic Church had hoisted the flag on a pole in front of his house at Parladka. 

The incident was noticed by a journalist. Puttur Tahsildar Kulle Gowda and SI Sudarshan visited the spot and removed the flag along with the Cross.

However, Bishop Vincent said that he had not dishonoured the flag intentionally.

“I have made the mistake unknowingly,” he said. Tahsildar Kulle Gowda said that action will be initiated as per the law.
