Last Updated 18 August 2012, 17:32 IST

MLA Raghupathy Bhat said that the third dam will be built across Yennehole to mitigate water woes in Udupi city.

Speaking at ‘Jago Shasak jago’ programme organised by Consumer Forum in Udupi taluk panchayat hall on Saturday, he said sand bags will be placed to check the flow of water from Baje dam after monsoon. The farmers will be asked not to grow second crop, on the banks of river Swarna.

To a query on lack of space in taluk office, he said that the taluk office will be shifted to old DC’s office within 15 days. “Mini Vidhan Soudha will come up in taluk office premises,” he said.

When members complained on charging extra fare without using metres by the auto drivers, the MLA said that all the auto drivers have been directed to use metres. “If any one found running the auto without using metre, then complain to the RTO by noting down the registration number,” he said.

There is Land Tribunal in Udupi. However, there is no Assistant Commissioner to head it. Kundapur Assistant Commissioner convenes the Tribunal meeting once or twice in a month.
He said that Yuva Shikshana Trust has been training children in yakshagana. “We want to extend the training till degree college. However, we do not have trainers.”

Railway Yathri Sangha President R L Dias said that the CMC should take up the work on desilting of Baje dam. Tender should be invited to dispose the silt.
