'Abilities mela' showcases spl children's talents in Madikeri

The exhibition truly showcased how special children are in no way inferior to others and how they lead an independent life. Commodities prepared by various special homes like ‘Swacha’ from Suntikoppa, Cheshire Home Polibetta, Kodagu Vidyalaya Madikeri, Opportunity School, Amrithavani from Devarapura, Karunya Home Bailukuppe were kept on display.

The mela was inaugurated by retired Air Marshal K C Nanda Karyappa who said that people should abstain the feelings of ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘For me’ and must develop the habit of sharing and caring.

“Parents think of well being of the children but they should also think of well being of the society. Society as a whole must strive for bringing special children to mainstream,” Karyappa said. Polibetta Cheshire Home Head Prabha Appachu said that there are over 1,500 special children and there is a need to provide community based rehabilitation for these children. The programme was presided over by Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan President K P Uthappa. Meena Karyappa from Opportunity school among others were present.
