'Rs 3 cr released to tackle drought'

The government has released additional Rs three crore to take up drought relief work in Tarikere, Chikmagalur, and Mudigere taluks, said MLA Dr Y C Vishwanath.

Speaking at a review meeting, he said there is no truth behind allegations levelled by the opposition with regard to Go shaala. Three Go shaala has been set up in three places across the taluk. There are plans to set up go shaalas at Chowlahiriyur, Antharaghatte, Chikkaballekere.

Probe will be conducted into the purchase of pipes before preparing an estimate by the Zilla Panchayat engineering division, to supply water to the villagers.

Taluk Panchayat Member Prabhukumar said that the poor quality of pipes have been laid.
 The State government has asked to purchase quality pipes. The members said that several borewells in Kadur taluk have become defunct with the depleting ground water level. As a result, several wards are facing acute shortage of water. To which, DC D K Rangaswamy said that “A sum of Rs 10 lakh has been released under SFC grant. If new borewells are drilled, then pipelines can be laid using the funds available for tackling drought.”

An action plan to take up 254 development works worth Rs 249 lakh was okayed. The works include flushing of borewells, 157 works related to extensuon of pipelines, 82 works on ponds for cattle.  

The MLA said that there was no shortage of funds to tackle drought in the taluk. The officials should ensure that there was no problem in the drought prone areas.
