Vigilance sleuths hone skills at CBI Academy in Ghaziabad

In a bid to keep pace with the fast-developing technology, sleuths in Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) in Bihar are honing their skills at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Academy at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Those selected for training are learning the basic nuances of using latest scientific techniques and equipment. As a consequence, the training will help cut down technical errors while preparing documents for prosecution.

Confirming this, the Additional Director General (ADG) of VIB, PK Thakur said the need was felt after increasing use of electronic and computer-based facilities for fund transfer by the accused.

“Of late, we realised that our officers need specialised training while handling corruption cases, particularly disproportionate assets cases, where proving the accused as guilty was becoming quite difficult since those involved in corruption cases were using electronic tools for fund transfer,” the ADG told Deccan Herald here on Sunday.

500 officials held

The VIB, state’s top anti-corruption agency, has so far apprehended more than 500 government officials, including IAS and IPS officers, in the last couple of years, who were charged with amassing assets disproportionate to their known source of income.

“Every month, we receive around 600 corruption complaints. But there is dearth of techno-savvy officials who can deal with the cases right up to the prosecution level. So we are sending our men for training by rotation. Besides, we are also contemplating over a proposal to have a separate and specialised cadre which will have highly-trained officials for information gathering, detection, unearthing DA cases and those who can look after the legal aspects of the case,” the ADG added.
