Bail denied for 17 homestay attackers

The district and sessions court on Tuesday rejected the bail applications of 17 accused involved in the attack on a group of partying youths at Morning Mist, a homestay at Padil here, on July 28.

Though 20 persons had filed bail pleas, only 17 applications came up for hearing on Tuesday and the judge rejected all the 17. They include Sharath, Taranath Kannur, Rajesh, Chethan, Sunil, Harish, Shailesh, Puneeth, Varun Poojary, Kiran Poojary, Suresh Poojary, Mithun Poojary, Sampath, Deepak, Ramesh Kotian, Jagadeesh and Nithin.

The hearing on the bail pleas of the remaining three will be taken up on August 31.  Though 22 people were arrested in connection with the attack, two, including the prime accused Subash Padil, had not filed bail pleas.

Two more held

Police on Monday arrested two more suspects in the case. They are Puneeth, a resident of Padil, and Dinesh, a resident of Nanthoor in Mangalore.

With these arrests, the number of arrested has gone up to 24. Police have filed FIRs against 27 persons, including two journalists. Barring the journalists, only one person is yet to be arrested.
