Two held for idol theft

The Chamarajpet police have arrested two persons when they were allegedly trying to sell an antique idol of Lord Krishna, in front of Mutturaya Swamy temple at Sirsi Circle.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Rizwan, 21, and Nagraj, 28, both from Ananthpur district of Andhra Pradesh and seized the idol, which is estimated to be worth Rs 75 lakh.

The police said during the interrogation, the two revealed that Rizwan, a gas welder in a village in Ananthpur, stole the antique idol from the village temple a month ago.

He came to the City along with Nagaraj, an electrician, to sell the idol.
