Safe walkway: Is MCC listening?

Here is a request to the Mayor Madam and our new Commissioner of MCC to please walk and cross the Railway under bridge (RUB) near Medar Block between Bamboo Bazaar and Ramayya Circle, Yadavagiri Ramanna Circle-Arali Mara without using the road but by climbing on the huge water mains as foot path/walkway to experience the death trap by speeding vehicles.

Secondly, JUSCO workers have wrecked the Bamboo Bazaar road and made it a miserable experience for motorists, pedestrians, Bamboo traders and slum dwellers of Medar Block.

While there is an unscientific speed breaker on the eastern side of the bridge, there is no such speed breaker on the western side and vehicles come hurtling down from Yadavagiri side on the steep inclined road thus endangering the life of pedestrians who are forced to share the narrow road under the bridge.

  This is one of the most ill-conceived RUBs and despite repeated appeals, neither MCC nor Railways have paid any attention to provide a safe walkway for the pedestrians.  After this pedestrian unfriendly problem was brought to the notice of the authorities, the then commissioner personally inspected the spot, directed the assistant commissioner Zone-6 to prepare a plan of action with the help of concerned members of Mysore Grahakara Parishath. 

After considerable time and with lots of patience and perseverance, the MCC officials called for a joint inspection when structural engineering specialist and Guinness book record holder Major General Sudhir G Vombatkere (Retd) and the undersigned, assisted them in finalising a walkway design that is economical, sturdy, pedestrian and disabled-friendly design that would provide a safe and secure walkway under the RUB without getting knocked down by the whizzing vehicles.

 A similar problem, reported earlier at the Tunnel-like RUB near old Ideal Jawa Factory is being addressed by construction of box-type structure over and above the huge water mains.  Providing such an infrastructure at the Bamboo Bazaar RUB would go a long way in helping the pedestrians of this area.
