2 drown in Napoklu

Two persons drowned in two separate incidents, at Napoklu on Monday.

A two-wheeler rider was washed away in Cauvery river, at Balamuri village near Napoklu.

The deceased is Neravanda Avin Ponnappa (30). The incident occurred when he was returning after taking part in various competitions held as a part of Kailu muhurtha festival.

It was said that there was two feet water on a footbridge across Cauvery river at Balamuriya. District-in-charge minister Appachu Ranjan, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik have visited the spot.

In another incident, a daily wage labourer accidentally slipped and fell into a small stream, at Mutharumudi near Napoklu. The dead is H B Gopal (60), a resident of Hakathoor.

Best teachers award

The winners of district-level best teachers award are: Yadapala Higher Primary School head teacher P M Damayanthi, Madapattana Government Primary School head teacher H R Raju, Arji Government Higher Primary School head teacher U K Premavathi, Chettalli High School Physical education teacher P S Machaiah, Koodige Sadguru Appayya Swamy High School associate teacher K R Rohini, Thithimathi Government High School’s B V Prathima. The award will be conferred, at Teachers Day celebration on September 5 at St Joseph’s High School in Madikeri, informed a press release from DDPI Basavaraju.
