Palike pep pill for Mandur

Last Updated 01 July 2014, 10:48 IST

Pushed to the corner by persistent protests of the local people, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has drawn up an action plan to improve the facilities in and around Mandur village.

During a review meeting on Monday, Palike Commissioner Rajneesh Goel directed the officials to improve the living conditions near the landfill and ensure that funds crunch does not come in the way of creating a hygienic environment in the villages.

Goel asked the officers to ensure supply of Cauvery water in tankers to Mandur, improve roads, organise health camps and distribute free medicines to the residents.

He was very critical of Srinivas Gayathri Resource Recovery Limited for its failure to comply with the conditions laid down in the agreement to manage the landfill and directed to issue a notice to the firm.

He, however, agreed that the landfill with a capacity for 1,000 tonnes of garbage a day was accepting refuse of more than 2,000 tonnes a day, which complicated the situation for the operator as well as the villagers.

Unused funds

The BBMP officials, of late, have realised that a sum of Rs 37 crore available under the 13th Finance Commission to construct segregation centres in all the BBMP wards, has remained untilised since 2007.

Goel was outraged during the review meeting when the officials brought the matter to his notice.

He directed them to identify places to set up segregation centres in all the 198 wards of the City.
