An exhibition to showcase Air Force

The two-day exhibition to be held at Orion Mall from September 8 will showcase the Indian Air Force to the public and serve as a platform for recruitment to the service.

From life-sized models of aircraft of World War II  and contemporary fighters to the changing IAF uniform styles with a ramp walk, the Air Force  will give a glimpse of their world to civilians during the exhibition.

Air Commodore Dharam Vir on Monday said using civilian facility instead of the IAF base for the exhibition was warranted on account of lesser security concerns.

“If conducted in the airbases or any of our facilities, the common man will be subjected to a lot of scrutiny and checks. To avoid this and for a small informal interaction, the concept of holding the event in malls was zeroed upon,” he said.

According to the IAF, of the 12 or 13 malls in the City, Orion Mall was chosen for its
proximity and the space availability.

On the designated days, the Air Force will host a number of activities, including flight simulators and Drona firing system for the citizens to have a feel of the IAF.

Gaming arcade

The IAF will also provide a gaming arcade for people and children to experience the ‘live action’.

To entice the youth, the IAF publicity and career forum wing, Disha, will set up a stall apart from that of Airmen Selection Board. A photo montage tracing the history of the IAF will also be put up at the exhibition.

Another attraction at the exhibition will be the Airwarrior Drill Team which will perform complex drill manoeuvres with the World War II vintage rifles fixed with bayonets. The Airwarriors will perform twice on each of the two days.

The exhibitions have been organised by the IAF as part of raising awareness among civilians about the importance of the Air Force. It is also part of the 80th anniversary celebrations of the IAF.
