Get set to welcome Natya Taringini again

The Kuchipudi dance institute of celebrated dancing duo Raja and Radha Reddy – Natya Tarangini is set to present its annual Parampara series of dance and music festival.

Based on the theme Bharatha Bharathi – celebrating the glorious world of dance, music and literature’ this time, it will see several famed artistes perform besides Raja and Radha Reddy (Kuchipudi) themse­l­v­es. The festival will be held over three days from September 7-9 at Kamani.

Natya Tarangini is an institute of excellence devoted to Kuchipudi dance. It has been run by Padma Bhushans Raja and Radha Reddy and Kaushalya since 1967 with the aim of propagating the rich Indian heritage of glorious music and dance tradition.
For the past 12 years, as part of its aim to spread quality arts among its audience, Natya Tarangini has been organising major dance and music festivals titled the Parampara series.

Under this series in 2004, Natya Tarangini organised a four day dance and music fest Vaangmayee – Celebrating the Masters of Literature inaugurated by former President APJ Kalam.

In 2005, a festival of instrumental music only, Layaalayam – The abode of Rhythm was held while in 2007, the festival travelled to Hyderabad where it received an overwhelming response and Shreyasi – the Parampara series of international festival was organised in 2011 in both Delhi and Hyderabad.

The series has become synonymous with a fest of Indian arts and culture and come back to Delhi after a long time. This year, the festival will open with Raja and Radha Reddy themselves with a Kuchipudi performance on September 7.

It will be followed by a santoor recital by Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma while the second day will see a Hindustani vocal recital by Padma Bhushan Pt. Channulal Mishra followed by Poushali Chatterjee who will perform Manipuri.

Padma Subrahmanyam begins the last day of the fest with a Bharatnatyam recital and the closing performance sees TM Krishna’s Carnatic vocal recital.

A founding member of the school, Kaushalya Reddy, the renowned Kuchipudi exponent says, “The fact that cultural heritage is our most precious treasure is something that Natya Tarangini understands well. It is a legacy, a cherished gift to our coming generations. We started this series to preserve and enrich our cultural mosaic in 1976 and today we feel proud that it is succeeding in its endeavours.”
