Two people, including a French national, have been arrested for involvement in two separate cases of drug trafficking in the Capital, police said on Thursday.

At least eight kilogram of ketamine worth Rs 80 lakh was recovered from the possession of 31-year-old Bregand Oliver, while 500 gram of heroine worth Rs 50 lakh was recovered from Mohammad Zakir, said Sanjay Kumar Jain, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).

In the first case, Bregand was held over specific information that a foreign national staying in Paharganj is involved in smuggling ketamine from Delhi to abroad through courier.

“A trap was laid and Bregand was apprehended when he came to a courier agency in Nabi Karim on Wednesday afternoon. Ketamine was kept in corrugated box in a traveler bag recovered from his possession,” Jain added.

Further efforts are being made to nab the source of supply and unearth people who are associated with Bregand in the trade.

In the second case, Zakir, 35, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Jyotiba Phule Nagar district, was held from near Akshardham Metro station on Tuesday. “We were informed that two persons were selling and supplying heroin in Delhi after procuring it from Bareilly,” Jain added.

Police received information that the accused persons would come to deliver a consignment of heroin to their contact. But, only Zakir came there, and was apprehended with 500 grams of heroin.

A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against Bregand and Zakir.
