Mukya Mantri Chandru, chairman of the Kannada Development Authority (KDA), said the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has agreed to soon put up Kannada nameplates and make all announcements in Kannada, along with the existing Hindi and English annoucements.

Speaking to reporters Friday, he said the BIAL sought six months time to incorporate Kannada in all the existing nameplates, while also making Kannada newspapers available at the airport. At a recent meeting between the KDA and BIAL officials, the latter also agreed to let KDA set up a Kannada study centre at the airport to teach all non-Kannada speaking employees the language.

“The BIAL has accepted all our suggestions. They have asked for some time to implement them. The BIAL has expressed eagerness to teach Kannada language to all non-Kannada speaking people working at the airport. The KDA has offered to set up a study centre,” he stated.

Chandru also said the KDA gave a three-month deadline to Toyota Kirloskar Motors plant in Bidadi to incorporate Kannada in-house. They also asked the unit to start celebrating Kannada Rajyotsava on November 1 from this year, he added.

He said the KDA was inspecting all government offices and private and public sector industries across the State to check implementation and use of Kannada. The Authority has covered Bangalore rural district, he said.
