A four-year-old daughter of a Delhi Police woman official who was rescued and the kidnapper, who allegedly has Maoist links, was arrested from Andhra Pradesh, said police.

The accused identified as Nageshwar Rai was arrested from Andhra Pradesh
last week and was brought to Delhi. The girl was also rescued from his clutches, said a police officer.

The mother of four-year-old has been living alone with her daughter in south Delhi’s Aya Nagar area for past two years after her husband died in 2010.

In July this year, Rai had come to her house in search of a place to stay. She rented her vacant flat to him. Since then, Rai had been living as a tenant. He became pally with the officer during his stay at her house. After having won her confidence, he robbed her of Rs 50,000 in cash from her house.

After getting suspicious of his hand in the robbery, the woman asked Rai to vacate her house. After this, Rai went to his native place.

He returned on August 18 and started staying at his friend’s place. Rai was well aware of the daily schedule of the official.

He reached the school of the official’s daughter on August 22 and as official’s daughter came out of the school, he kidnapped her.

After taking the kid, he went to New Delhi Railway Station and left for his hometown. Meanwhile, the officer registered a police complaint of missing. After reaching his hometown, the accused made a ransom call of Rs 5 lakhs to the official, threatening to kill his daughter.

She rushed to Fatehpuri Beri police station and registered a kidnapping case.
Meanwhile, a police team put the mobile phone of accused on technical surveillance which followed him to his native place in Andhra Pradesh. Within a period of twenty days, the police managed to trace the accused in Andhra Pradesh, arrested him, rescued the kid and brought both of them to Delhi.

During interrogation, Rai told police that he had assumed the woman to be rich, as she is a Delhi police official. So he made a plan to kidnap her daughter.
He also told that when he was asked to vacate the flat, he had felt humiliated and wanted to take revenge.

During probe, police also found that the accused has links with the Maoists, which the police is verifying.
