Madesnana: HC allows 14 applications

Last Updated 12 September 2012, 18:22 IST

The High Court on Wednesday permitted all the 14 applications seeking to implead in the petition urging a ban on the practice of Madesnana.

The applicants include residents of Subramanya village in Sullia taluk, members of Malekudiyara Sangha, the Subramanya temple employees and a few individuals who have filed applications seeking that they be heard.

The applicants had stated that the allegations made in the writ petition were wholly misconceived.  “It is not conducted by the temple authorities as the ritual is not included in the approved seva list of the temple,” the petitioners said. The applicants denied the statements in the writ petition that the devotees of lower community are made to roll on the leftover food of the upper castes. The court directed them to file objections within four weeks.

Hearing adjourned

The High Court has adjourned the hearing of a petition seeking appointment of an appropriate person as chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).
The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B V Nagarathna adjourned the matter after the government counsel sought more time to file objections.

Hearing a petition by Srirame Gowda, former Mayor, the court had earlier stayed the appointment of the chairman made by the State government. It had also directed the State to continue the incumbent chairman (Sadashivaiah) in the said post till further orders.

The petitioner stated that the appointment had been made against the suggestion of the M G K Menon Committee.
