Leopard found dead in jaw trap

A leopard, suspected to have died in a jaw trap set for catching pigs, was found near the forest area of N Begur village in HD Kote taluk, on Friday.

The male leopard, around six years old, was found in the trench dug on the boundaries of the land belonging to Subbegowda and Dasanayaka at Kalasuru Gasti.

Forest officials suspect that the leopard might have died elsewhere and the carcass might have been dropped into the trap. Shivajirao, one of the dogs of the department’s dog squad, has been engaged to track it. As many as 40 members of the Tiger Protection team are scouring the fringes of the forest.

The post-mortem on the leopard was conducted by veterinary doctor Dr Nagaraju.
