<p>Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday directed Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to sort out the State Road Transport Corporation employees’ strike at the earliest. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of the Gandhi Adhyayana Kendra and at a meeting later in the evening, Yeddyurappa told Shettar to hold talks with the leaders and to initiate strict measures to break the logjam.<br /><br />Yeddyurappa said: “I was pained to see problems people faced at the Kempegowda Bus Stand. People were in distress and wanted the government to break the impasse at the earliest.”<br /><br />He said the drivers have resorted to unlawful means, by pressuring the government to fulfil their demands, which he felt, should not be permitted in a democratic setup.<br />Shettar, who has left the matter to Transport Minister R Ashoka to handle, cited Mahatma Gandhi’s peaceful way of agitation without troubling anyone. <br /><br />“While Mahatma Gandhi achieved his goal through agitation, which never troubled anyone, the KSRTC and BMTC drivers' agitation has affected people badly. This should not go on. I appeal to the drivers to withdraw their agitation in larger public interest,” said Shettar. He assured Yeddyurappa of resolving the problem by the end of Friday.<br /></p>
