BSY asks Shettar to end impasse

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday directed Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to sort out the State Road Transport Corporation employees’ strike at the earliest.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of the Gandhi Adhyayana Kendra and at a meeting later in the evening, Yeddyurappa told Shettar to hold talks with the leaders and to initiate strict measures to break the logjam.

Yeddyurappa said: “I was pained to see problems people faced at the Kempegowda Bus Stand. People were in distress and wanted the government to break the impasse at the earliest.”

He said the drivers have resorted to unlawful means, by pressuring the government to fulfil their demands, which he felt, should not be permitted in a democratic setup.
Shettar, who has left the matter to Transport Minister R Ashoka to handle, cited Mahatma Gandhi’s peaceful way of agitation without troubling anyone.

“While Mahatma Gandhi achieved his goal through agitation, which never troubled anyone, the KSRTC and BMTC drivers' agitation has affected people badly. This should not go on. I appeal to the drivers to withdraw their agitation in larger public interest,” said Shettar. He assured Yeddyurappa of resolving the problem by the end of Friday.
