Dasara jumbo dies

A she elephant, that had participated in the Dasara festivities earlier, died of ailment at K Gudi camp in Chamarajanagar district on Sunday.

Kavita (80) of the camp, under Biligiriranganatha forest limits, had stopped taking food for the past three to four days. She had taken part in the festival along with other kumki elephants.

Owing to age, the pachyderm was suffering from low vision and had suffered injuries after dashing against trees, as and when it was let inside the forest. This was also the reason,
the elephant was kept out of Dasara for the past six years.

Veterinarian Dr Ramesh said the animal died of multiple organ failure in the forest around 4.30 pm. Post-mortem will be conducted on Monday.
