Last Updated 21 September 2012, 18:37 IST

JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda on Friday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to reconsider his ruling directing Karnataka to release 9,000 cusec of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

He said as the Chairperson of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA), the Prime Minister should depute teams for an on-the-spot assessment of water storage level in both the states. An appropriate ruling should then be given on the basis of the assessment, he added.
Moreover, he should have deputed officials from the Ministry of Water Resources to check the ground reality before convening the CRA meeting, Gowda said.

Instead, he only convened a meeting and also issued a direction to Karnataka in the absence of any data, he said.
