PM redefined democracy: Modi

Last Updated 21 September 2012, 19:53 IST

Sharpening his attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at a public function at Bhuj on Friday said that the prime minister had changed the definition of democracy and chose to remain silent on the recent Assam violence.

Unleashing a shrill attack on Singh, Modi said that Singh has transformed the definition of democracy from what former US President Abraham Lincoln had defined as “of the people, by the people, for the people” to “of the foreigners, by the foreigners and for the foreigners”.

Modi further alleged that FDI in multi-brand retail has been allowed without a level-playing field for the international retail giants and domestic players. Modi further took on Singh for not doing enough to contain the recent violence in Assam.
