A delegation of Delhi University Teachers’ Association met President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday over “serious lapses” on the part of the DU vice chancellor. Mukherjee assured DUTA that he will use his office to ensure that the VC is answerable.

“The lapses on the VC’s part include violations of the University Act, its statutes and ordinances; misuse of emergency powers to bring in courses and start new centres like the Cluster Innovation Center,” said DUTA president Amar Deo Sharma. “Also, the manner in which he has forced the academic council to pass courses under BTech in innovation programme,” said Sharma.

DUTA brought to the President’s notice its failed attempts to have a dialogue with the VC after approaching him time and again. The President promised restoration of administrative delivery and the university’s prestige to the satisfaction of teachers, a DUTA member said.

Earlier, DUTA members met chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who assured them of looking into the matter. They also met Union human resource development minister Kapil Sibal and UGC chairman Ved Prakash, citing similar concerns.
