A multi-cultural BSF ‘mela’, displaying handicrafts and art collections made by the families of its jawans, was inaugurated in the Capital on Friday.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s wife, Gursharan Kaur, inaugurated the two-day ‘BSF fete’.
The wives and families of these troopers, hailing from West Bengal, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Punjab, Gujarat and other regions, have brought a number of handicrafts and unique art items, which are available at reasonable rates at the fair.

The ‘mela’ is being held at the CRPF ground in front of CGOs complex.  Kaur felicitated a number of wives of the jawans.

The proceeds of sales of the ‘mela’ will be utilised for the welfare of the force personnel. The force has also put up some unique stalls which offer traditional arts and cuisines, especially from northeastern states.

The fair, scheduled to be closed on Saturday, is expected to be extended till Sunday.
