26-day-old found abandoned outside gym

A 26-day-old girl child was left abandoned on the staircase of a gym at New Ashok Nagar in east Delhi on Friday night, police said.  

The child was wrapped in clothes and left at the closed gym at E block in New Ashok Nagar at around 8 pm.

Hearing the child crying, neighbours and passersby stopped and found her.

They called police and informed them about the matter. A police control room van reached the spot and took the child to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

The doctors at the hospital said child was fine, and was not suffering from any disease or injuries.

A police official said they found a tag of Kasturba Hospital on the abandoned child’s clothes.
Police suspect the child belongs to a woman named Rukhsana.

Investigations revealed that Rukhsana had got admitted at Kasturba Hospital on August 26 and after delivering a girl child, she was discharged on September 13.

Her husband Taufeeq came to take both the baby and her home, said the official.
Meanwhile, they have registered a case under section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it) of Indian Penal Code with New Ashok Nagar police station and started looking for baby’s parents.
