'Provide electricity for drinking water projects'

Zilla Panchayat President Shantheyanda Ravi Kushalappa directed the Chescom executive engineer to provide electricity connections to 58 drinking water projects in the district.

Speaking at a monthly KDP review meeting here on Saturday, he said the officials have been asked to provide electricity connections in the past. However, several projects could not be implemented in villages and hamlets owing to lack of electricity.

Zilla Panchayat CEO K B Anjanappa said along with drinking water, electricity connections should be provided for the projects of Ambedkar D Devraj Urs Backward Classes Corporation.

“There was a need to construct houses for the poor under Housing schemes. The Zilla Panchayat will hold discussion with the Gram Panchayat Presidents and Vice-Presidents on purchasing land for the same,” he said.

Zilla Panchayat Vice-President H M Kaveri said there was a need to identify paisari land to distribute it among the poor. There was a need for disbursing loan for the women from SC/ST under Swarna Jayanthi Grama Swaraj Yojana.

Kannada Kavalu Samithi President T P Ramesh said the State government has already released a sum of Rs 3.67 crore for the district Kala mandira. The work should commence at the earliest.

“The name plate, sign boards at tourist spots should be written in Kannada,” said ZP President. He said possessing a gun is a part of the Kodava tradition. There was no need to get permission from the forest department for getting a license for the gun.

If the forest department had issued any circular in this regard, then such a circular should be withdrawn.

Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary P Puttaswamy said “a sum of Rs 10 crore has been released to the district under MGNREGS, of which Rs 5.93 crore has been utilised.” The meeting decided to hold Gadi Utsav at Karike, in the last week of October.

The State government has released a sum of Rs 2 lakh for the purpose. Zilla Panchayat Standing committee on agriculture and industry president Babeera Saraswathi, Standing committee on education and health President Kanthi Belliappa were present.
