GP against annual cattle fair in Kulkunda

Subramanya Gram Panchayat has come up with a decision of not organising annual cattle fair at Kulkunda Majalu in Subramanya.

If the government takes up the initiative to organise the fair through the departments concerned, the Gram Panchayat will not object, said Gram Panchayat Member Shivaram Rai.

Speaking to media persons on Friday, he said the Gram Panchayat has taken the decision due to the cattle fair facing several legal hurdles.

“We had requested Subramanya temple authorities to organise the fair. But the temple authorities replied us saying that there is no religious connection between the temple and the cattle fair, hence the temple can not organise the fair.

Several district and taluk-level organisations have been harassing the cattle buyers and panchayat members every year.

The Police Department too does not provide protection to the Panchayat members and the cattle buyers. “Hence, we have taken the decision of not organising the fair,” informed Rai.
