BJP gears up for workers rally today

Last Updated 24 September 2012, 20:19 IST

State BJP president Vijender Gupta on Monday said over one lakh people may turn up in the first national rally of the Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Mahasangh to be held at Ramlila Maidan on Tuesday.

Gupta said over 50,000 people have already arrived in Delhi for the rally. “By tomorrow more than one lakh workers will reach Delhi and announce the fight against the anti-workers policies of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led government,” he said.

“The government has neglected 43 crore workers of the unorganised sector for the last 63 years. The condition of workers and labourers is bad and BJP has decided to take up their issues,” said Gupta.

BJP national president Nitin Gadkari, senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Murli Manohar Joshi, and former Union minister Prahlad Patel, among others, are expected to participate in the rally.

The major demands of the workers include keeping aside 3 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product for welfare of workers in the unorganised sector and a provision in the budget for this purpose, uniform and simplified registration process of workers and making the ‘right to livelihood’ a fundamental right.

Gupta said foreign direct investment should be abolished from the retail sector and registration numbers of workers must be included in Aadhaar cards.

Muslims join BJP

Hundreds of Muslims from Patparganj Assembly constituency joined the BJP on Monday in Gupta’s presence. State BJP Minority Morcha president Atif Rashid and national BJP Minority Morcha president Tanvir Ahmad were present on the occasion.
