BIAL is first Indian airport to test self-boarding

Last Updated 25 September 2012, 16:39 IST

Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) on Tuesday announced that it has deployed IBM’s technology platform to integrate passengers, partners and airport operations and conform to internationally approved Aviation Information Data Exchange (AIDX).

Through this, BIAL has now become the first Indian airport to have technology infrastructure to implement several customer-friendly solutions and achieve better collaboration and on-time performance.

Starting from self-boarding, a feature that allows passengers to get boarding done in airports through Radio Frequency identification (RFId), and automatic baggage handling/check-in, the technology platform would allow the airport to introduce customer-friendly features subject to requirement of stakeholders and regulatory changes.

“Today’s airport users, armed with mobile devices that allow data access, look for easier ways to use airport services and operations,” said BIAL Director (Operations) Daniel Bircher.
