BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday promised quality education, hospital houses and hiked wages to 43 crore unorganised sector workers if the party comes to power in the 2014 general elections.

Addressing a rally of workers at Ramlila Maidan, Gadkari blamed the Congress government and its economic policies for making the common man’s life miserable.
He opposed bringing foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail, saying this will result in loss of jobs.

“The present government has proved to be the most corrupt in the country’s history. As per some estimates, the Manmohan Singh government
has committed a bungling of about Rs 5 lakh crore,” said Gadkari.

“Had this money been spent on the welfare of workers, their lives would have been different. But don’t worry, the time has come for the Congress to pay for its deeds. The NDA government will come to power in next elections and provide you everything from education to houses, and insurance to medicines,” said Gadkari.

With the amount of money bungled by the Congress, the government could have built over a crore housing units or given medical facilities to over 10 crore people, he added.

Gadkari said nothing has been done for the welfare of workers in the last eight years of the Congress rule.

“By allowing FDI in retail, the Manmohan Singh government has opened the way for the downfall of the country. Money will go out of India and youth will be unemployed,” he said.
“The companies will exploit farmers and consumers.”

Former Union minister Murli Manohar Joshi said allowing FDI in retail will lead to the 18th century situation when East India Company had come for trade, but gradually annexed the entire country.

National president of Bharatiya Janta Mazdoor Mahasangh Prahlad Patel, state BJP president Vijender Gupta, and leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly V K Malhotra were also present.
