JD (U) MLA's husband opens fire

Last Updated 28 September 2012, 17:08 IST

The ghost of ‘jungle raj’ returned to haunt the people of Bihar when a history-sheeter Ranveer Yadav, husband of Janata Dal (United) legislator Poonam Yadav, snatched carbine from the bodyguard of the MLA, fired in the air and mercilessly beat the agitating teachers with lathi during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Adhikar yatra in Khagaria.

All this happened when Nitish was in the district to garner support for his proposed Adhikar rally in Patna on November 4. The protestors, mostly teachers appointed on contract basis, had earlier shown black flags to the Chief Minister while demanding that their services be regularised and salary be given a substantial hike.

While protesting, they damaged the windscreens of the DGP’s vehicle and threw stones at the CM’s cavalcade too. The JD(U) on Friday defended Ranveer’s action and said he was simply trying to shield the Chief Minister from the rampaging mob.
