Eng, Lanka fined

Last Updated 30 September 2012, 19:26 IST

Sri Lanka and England, who won Saturday’s Super Eight matches in World Twenty20 against their respective opponents, have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the matches, reports PTI from Pallekele.

Sri Lanka defeated the West Indies by nine wickets while England beat New Zealand by six wickets.

ICC Match Referee Javagal Srinath imposed the fines after Sri Lanka and England were ruled to be one over short of their targets at the end of their respective matches when time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
