Prospects of a bright future

The young engineers and future scientists of the City are doing wonders with their inventions and innovations. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why C N R Rao, head of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, recently hinted that the City has the potential to become the science hub of the country.

City-based students have been winning various national and international competitions.
Whether it is designing a new automobile or proving their mettle in an international aeronautical competition, they have mastered it all. In such a scenario, Metrolife speaks to a few students to know their opinion on the City becoming a science hub.

Aniket, a student of PESIT, notes that the interaction between the education sector and industries has increased greatly.

The students can learn a lot from the industries. “Many professionals visit us on a regular basis to help us increase our know-how on the functioning of an industry. If the City is going to be a science hub, we as students of science and engineering will be in a very advantageous position. The exposure will increase and we will be able to upgrade ourselves to the latest technology, as science is advancing everyday,” he says.

He says that previously, engineering courses were limited to the classrooms. It has changed now. “This has helped us in developing a professional attitude at an early age and we feel mature in that sphere. Being a science hub will only add to it,” he adds.

Apart from scientific and technological innovations taking place in the City, being a science hub also makes sure that a host of scientists and veterans from the industry will be coming in, which can be a boon for the students. “Noted scientists will come down to the City if Bangalore is declared a science hub. Most of all, we will get their guidance and help. It means a host of opportunities for those students who are interested in innovation and experimenting,” says Satvik, a science student.

They feel that there is immense talent among students, which needs to be channelised in the right direction. “There is a lot of potential among engineering students here. This can be put in the right direction in the fields of research, projects and technical papers and can be enhanced with the help of scientists and people in the industry. If Bangalore is made the science hub, we will get a lot of guidance as well as funding through which engineering feats can be accomplished,” sums up Nitin Kondal, a student of R V College
of Engineering.
